Safari

Of late, I am just so addicted to Nat Geo. Honestly I think the animals in zoo are living a much more blissful life than those in the wild. Life in safari is indeed very stressful. Imagine if you have to fight for survival almost every day and being fearful of being torn into pieces by the predators. So yeah, stop disliking that annoying co-worker in your office. At least he/she doesn't see you as food in his/her plate.

I've never realized elephants have so many tricks up their "trunks" til I watched Nat Geo. It' interesting to see how the elephants try to chase off lions that were trying to attack baby hippos, throwing broken trunks at rhinoceros and shooing off cheetahs that were tearing off their raw, bloody prey. Just like human, the elephants were disgusted by the sight and covered the carcass with sands....haha....

I truly am fascinated by this female leopard named Lagedema. Kudos to Dereck and Beverly Joubert who are the producers of the documentary named "Living with Big Cats" / "The Leopard's Eyes" which captured the life Lagedema over a span of 3 years. I wish I could meet Lagedema someday in the safari of Africa...

Search for the rest of the clips on youtube if you are keen to watch the complete documentary. Don't miss the clip where Legadema miraculously protected the baby baboon from being attacked by hyena instead of swallowing the tiny prey in one gulp! Aaaoooww...cant believe this....a wild leopard too has compassion!

In the same week, I've watched several other interesting documentaries on these big cats...

The Heart of Lioness - lonely lioness seeks human companionship
The Last Lioness       - lioness adopts a baby antelope

I am following "Into the Pride". Just watched Episdode 1 and found the cat trainer, Dave Salmoni, to be rather nonsensical, disrupting the tranquility of the pride in order to condition them to get used to human presence. I don't perceive what he does as part of conservation work. Why on earth does wild animals need to be conditioned that way? Is he hoping that the lions will someday pose and wave to the tourists' cameras? Kevin Richardson is much better by thousand miles, though Christian the Lion is still my all time favourite!
